Presenter bio: Erik joined Verdane’s Oslo office as a partner in 2021. He has more than two decades of experience as a chief executive, investment professional, board member, and sustainability expert with a proven ability to turn sustainability into competitive advantage and financial results. He joined Verdane following nine years as Group CEO at Norsk Gjenvinning, a leading Scandinavian supplier of waste management and recycling services. During his time at Norsk Gjenvinning, Erik oversaw the Nordic expansion of the company’s sustainable recycling and waste treatment solutions, transforming it into Norway’s eleventh most reputable company based on a number one position on environment, according to the market research company Ipsos. He is also a member of the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment’s Climate Council, and Chair of WWF Norway. Driven by the firm belief that sustainable business practices can create competitive advantage for companies, he is widely acknowledged for his strong execution ability based on aligning interest in operations with solid overall strategic direction setting, both through line management and teamwork, and his solid track record in building company reputation and corporate culture. He is a Harvard Business School MBA and BI Norwegian Business School graduate. Eric's ESG approach is creative and disruptive, especially in the waste industry (NG to Carbon removal). Harvard Business School has published a case study describing some of his initial contributions to ESG. He is a guest lecturer at Harvard business school and MIT school of engineering. During his talk, Eric would share crucial insights in sustainable business practices, followed by recent highlights of his team's carbon removal activities (BECCS).
